The call for applications for the 2024 EFAS Travelling Fellowship is open!

EFAS Forum

As previously agreed with UEMS this shall be ratified and sanctioned by UEMS. The format will be a 1 hour multiple choice questionnaire comprising 50 questions with five options. A bank of questions has been developed by the examination board and shall be reviewed and updated regularly. The primary aim of the development of a European Certification process in Trauma and Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery is to promote the highest standard of practice in our field of expertise to benefit patients. EFAS holds a biannual international congress each odd year in connection with its General Assembly.

The location and prospective congress president of the upcoming congresses is voted on by the General Assembly. In even years, the EFAS General Assembly is usually connected to a smaller, more focused meeting (usually hosted by the EFAS president). We have come a long way from where we started and today, EFAS represents 28 national societies and around surgeons in Europe. Once your registration documents are submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. Your application will then reviewed by the EFAS Council during the face-to-face meeting (usually taking place 3 times a year around January, June and at the time of the Annual Meeting).

Do the EFA requirements apply to me?

In recent years, EFAS has achieved a leading position within the international “Foot and Ankle Community.” Today, it is recognized as the most dynamic and largest international foot and ankle society worldwide. This course covers more advanced topics, such as arthroscopic techniques and sport lesions in foot an ankle,  degenerative articular lesions in foot and ankle, flat foot and DTP and complications of this pathology, Ankle arthroplasty and their complications. The approach in 3 phases – theorical presentation, faculty demonstration, and practical work – is similar to basic course. The participants work with fresh cadaver specimens, all tested and with all safety guarantees. The remit of this bulletin is to create a global platform for sharing hot topics, news, and events related to foot and ankle conditions. To that effect, BOFAS has partnered with other international foot and ankle societies.

The bottom hedge is owned and managed only by the claimant and is fully within the parcel so is eligible to be claimed as EFAH100. In this example the road is less than five metres wide and the hedge may or may not be claimed as an EFA Hedge so can be included in the EFA margin area. If your holding is only partly organic, you may choose not to benefit from the exemption for organic land. Instead, you may choose to meet your Greening requirements across all of your arable land.

  • Additionally, scholarship holders receive a daily allowance of 25 Euros per day.
  • In addition to the names prepared by the search committee, the final ballot can include names which have been agreed upon by the representatives of at least three member national societies.
  • The comprehensive EFACS E/8 planning module will schedule production, including material management.
  • The Global Flood Awareness Systems (GloFAS) in contrast to EFAS, is the operational global flood forecasting and monitoring system, being operational since 2018.
  • A scholarship for the European Forum Alpbach event is available to applicants from all countries and disciplines.
  • Diagram 2 below shows an EFA margin on permanent grassland (claimed as land use PC) within five metres of arable land.

You interpretation on how the depth is defined is correct; the file gives the depth of the bottom of each layer from the surface – the soil depth for layer 1 goes to 50 mm and the soil depth for layer 2 goes till 1400 mm, and so on. However, as part of our continual commitment to ensuring foot and ankle training in UK meets the highest standards, there are some important changes coming to the way in which fellowships are accredited. This will comprise evidence-based practice and technical tips including videos of surgical techniques.

Both the unit and the fellow are expected to engage with BOFAS activities, such as becoming a BOFAS member and attending the Annual Conference. Supported by the EFAS Research Committee, the EFAS Research Foundation enables research and scientific work of EFAS and Foot & Ankle area, including all sub-areas of Foot & Ankle, as basic science, biomechanics, epidemiology, clinics, surgery, outcome, radiology, and others. EFAS 4.2 mainly concerns the addition of new hydrological river discharge stations in relevant layers, wtih additional improvements and general bug fixes. If you are a foot and ankle surgeon residing and working in a European country, you may apply for this membership type by choosing respective option below. A set of 14 model parameters was selected for calibration following recommendations from previous work on the LISFLOOD model and its application to EFAS. The parameters control snow accumulation and snow melting, overland flow, percolation to the lower groundwater zone, the residence time of the upper and lower groundwater zone, lakes, reservoirs and channel routing.

h Meeting of EFAS 17th Meeting of the European Federation of Audiological Societies

Through EFAS, we are dedicated to bridge this gap by advancing accessible, affordable and sustainable hearing care services for all. An issue has been identified with the EFAS sub-region extraction tool, whereby it serves data that is not correctly located on the river network. Any time-varying data (i.e. River discharge in the last 6 or 24 hours, snow depth water equivalent, and volumetric soil moisture) that has been downloaded using this tool from 2018 until now is not located at the correct position on the network when compared to the upstream area. NAMEThe European Federation of Audiology Societies, EFAS, is a non-profit organization, formed as a federation for national audiology societies in the European countries. Audiology is defined as the science of hearing and the alleviation of the effects of disorders of the auditory system.

  • Benefit from reduced rates to all EFAS courses and events and meet fellow surgeons.
  • Data from more than 1,800 active stations are collected on a 24/7 basis either as water levels and/or discharge at different temporal resolution, then quality checked and resampled at 1-, 6- and 24‑hour time steps.
  • EFAS provides a wide range of early flood forecasting information to support national and regional authorities with flood risk management duties in arranging preparatory measures before an event strikes.
  • By analyzing these external factors, organizations can better understand the opportunities and threats that may impact their strategic decisions.
  • The EFAS Matrix primarily focuses on external factors such as opportunities and threats, while the SWOT Analysis considers both internal factors (strengths and weaknesses) and external factors.
  • It ensures that long lead-time materials and supplies arrive at the correct time.
  • Topical application of oil is an effective means of delivering EFAs to the skin and is a great add on to anyone’s current skin routine.

This offered information on nested catchments, which is very important for a distributed hydrological model calibration. However, it came with an additional challenge in terms of calibration strategy and run time, as data was generally a mix of 6‑hourly and daily discharge observed over different time periods. This was solved by dividing the EFAS domain in 1,137 sub-catchments or inter-catchments and by performing the calibration through a catchment-based parallelisation of the model domain.

Either warnings are not getting through, or people and authorities are failing to take appropriate action. BOARDThe Board shall consist of the Chairperson, the Vice Chairperson, the Past Chairperson, the Secretary-General and the Treasurer, elected from the members of the Committee of Representatives. The Vice Chairperson shall normally succeed to the office of Chairperson for a two year period and thereafter to the office of Past Chairperson for a two year term.

Who is online

Please note the entirety of the hedge can only be claimed once, either claiming EFAH50 twice or EFAH100 once. Hedges provide a habitat and wildlife corridor for a variety of farmland birds, insects and mammals. In this example, the EFAM claimed area is 20 metres wide however, as the watercourse is three metres wide (which makes it ineligible for BPS), it’s area will need to be deducted from the overall area of EFAM to establish a net eligible area of EFA. In this instance, there is a GAEC requirement to maintain a two metre wide, uncultivated strip from the centre line of the hedge.

The EFAS Research Foundation provides not only means for education of the EFAS members but also of all orthopaedic surgeons, residents, scientists, and all professions dealing with Foot & Ankle. A complete logbook of surgical cases shall be required preferably electronically for ratification by the examination board before proceeding to the examination. Evidence of appropriate Fellowship training in a Foot and Ankle Surgery Centre of Excellence is desirable but not mandatory at present. The Certification Board recognises that this is very variable depending on the country of origin of candidates and would not wish to disadvantage some EFAS members. However, in the future as the Certificate develops this will become a likely significant component of the proposed Advanced Specialist Certificate.

The European and Global Flood Awareness Systems (EFAS and GloFAS)

SCOPEThe scope of EFAS is to promote cooperation, exchange of experience and knowledge of audiology within Europe, both as a scientific field and as a hearing health service. EFAS may also represent European audiology in international forums and organizations. But when I upload the netCDF file in Python using xarray and actually check it, the soil depth for layer 1 goes till 50 meters, and the soil depth for layer 2 goes till 1400 m (1.4 km !!!).

EFAS v5.2 introduces several minor changes to the system, including; Revised Notification criteria for Formal and Informal notifications, updates to station metadata, updated flood protection levels and major rivers layers, and updated documentation on FTP access. Each sub-catchment was calibrated separately but using a multisite cascading calibration (MSCC) approach, where the calibrated discharge from upstream river basins was used as input for downstream ones. The calibration was iteratively performed from upstream to downstream, from the catchment with the smallest area to the largest one, as flow routing calculations must be carried out in a serial manner along the mainstream of a river basin. Compared to the EFAS 3 system, the number of calibration points increased by 426 stations, up from 711 in the previous calibration exercise. However, some of the already existing calibration stations are now providing 6‑hourly data and thus different data were used in the EFAS 4 calibration, often on significantly shorter periods. LISFLOOD requires a wide range of spatially distributed input parameters and variables such as topography, soil type, land use, channel geometry, and river network.

  • The EFAS Matrix, which stands for External Factor Analysis Summary, is a strategic management tool that helps organizations evaluate external opportunities and threats.
  • The aim of EFAS is to support preparatory measures before major flood events strike, particularly in large transnational river basins and throughout Europe in general.
  • Over 1.5 billion people worldwide live with some degree of hearing loss, and this number is expected to rise significantly in the coming decades.
  • Complicated legal arrangements and the stigma of insolvency aren’t the only way out – EFAS will help you to find the solution that’s right for you should issues arise with equipment finance contracts.
  • The agenda will include the election of new Council officers, and members will be required to cast their votes electronically.
  • In addition, EFACS E/8 is fully compatible with Making Tax Digital (MTD).All of our financial modules are characterised by ease of use and high functionality and flexibility.
  • The first time user is advised to get familiar with the services and products by browsing through the EFAS User Guide.

LISFLOOD is a fully distributed hydrological model, which explicitly considers the spatial distribution of physical properties across catchments and provides estimates of river discharge on the entire geographical domain. Driven by meteorological forcing data (precipitation, temperature, potential evapotranspiration, and evaporation rates for open water and bare soil surfaces), LISFLOOD calculates a complete water balance for every grid cell within the EFAS domain, currently on a 5×5 km grid. Processes simulated include snowmelt, soil freezing, surface runoff, infiltration into the soil, preferential flow, redistribution of soil moisture within the soil profile, drainage of water to the groundwater system, groundwater storage, and groundwater base flow.

Stations where a minimum of four years of good-quality discharge data were available were selected as calibration points. By upgrading the full EFAS medium-range modelling chain to a 6‑hourly timestep, all forcing fields, including observed meteorological data to simulate initial conditions, needed to also be produced at the finer time step. For the LISFLOOD model, this includes gridded maps of precipitation, average air temperature, evaporation rate from free water surface and bare soil surface, and potential evapotranspiration for reference crop surfaces.

A list of Centres throughout Europe has been collected but consideration may be given to other International Fellowships. The minimum time period is three months but this may include training for shorter periods in several centres. The selection procedure produced a list of 1,137 calibration stations in 215 different catchments, 406 with 6‑hourly and 731 with daily observed discharge time series. For EFAS 4, the LISFLOOD domain area was slightly extended to include the Jordan catchment. The river network in the Balkans was also improved to better represent physical rivers in the region, with updates to the channels’ geometry reflecting the changes done to the drainage network.

On the other hand, SWOT Analysis offers a more comprehensive assessment of an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, allowing for a deeper understanding of the factors that may influence strategic decisions. One of the key advantages of SWOT Analysis is its holistic approach to strategic planning. By considering both internal and external factors, organizations can gain a more comprehensive understanding of their current situation and future prospects. This can help companies develop strategies that are aligned with their capabilities and the external environment, leading to more effective decision-making.

The aims of the society are to promote the development of foot and ankle surgery and to advance education, study and research in this specialty. This type of membership is for individual European orthopaedic and trauma surgeons with strong interest in foot and ankle surgery residing in a country where there is no EFAS-affiliated National Society. The aims of the society are to promote the development of foot and ankle surgery and to advance education, study and research in this specialty.

We are also advancing our collaboration with various national associations to homologate their curricula. If you are an an individual with strong commitment to foot and ankle surgery residing and working outside of Europe, you may apply for this membership type. EFAS is the first operational European system monitoring and forecasting floods across Europe. For the calibration of EFAS 4, a dataset containing daily and 6‑hourly discharge data at river gauges for the period 1990–2017 was put together at ECMWF, based on data provided by EFAS-HYDRO.

  • This can help companies develop strategies that are aligned with their capabilities and the external environment, leading to more effective decision-making.
  • GENERAL ASSEMBLYThe Committee of Representatives shall meet for General Assembly once per year.
  • In contrast, SWOT Analysis is more focused on assessing internal capabilities and external factors, enabling organizations to develop strategies that leverage their strengths and opportunities while mitigating their weaknesses and threats.
  • The combination of cutting-edge audiological science, meaningful professional connections, and the magnificent setting of Vienna made this congress truly memorable.
  • The sub-region extraction tool has therefore been removed from the EFAS CDS entries for versions up to v4, and any area specified in cdsapi requests will return the entire domain .
  • It is a structured framework that allows companies to identify and prioritize key external factors that may impact their business.
  • This tuning process generally aims to minimise errors in the volume and timing of simulated flow over a multi-year period.
  • The purpose of the Education Committee is to provide high quality training to foot and ankle surgeons from across Europe and beyond.

For the purposes of calculating your EFA requirement, your arable land must include all of the land used to grow arable crops, fallow, temporary grassland, leguminous crops and herbaceous crops that you claim for the Basic Payment Scheme. Hearing loss is one of the most challenging health issues that needs global attention. Over 1.5 billion people worldwide live with some degree of hearing loss, and this number is expected to rise significantly in the coming decades.

However, there shall be no limit to the number of times that a Candidate may present for examination. Evidence of at least two international publications in appropriate Journals on Foot and Ankle Surgical topics shall be required. Preference shall be given to those publishing in the Journal of the European Foot and Ankle Society. EFAS currently has Basic Instructional Courses, Cadaver Courses, and an Annual Meeting or Advanced Instructional Course each year. Ideally the candidate shall have attended each of these courses but variations may be acceptable and the final decision about proceeding to sit the examination shall be determined by the Examination Board. It is complex and a reflection of our internal and external health whilst performing a multitude of functions, such as being a physical barrier for chemicals, UV radiation protection, insulating and synthesising Vitamin D.
